  • Asking others to repeat themselves.
  • Frequently saying, “What?”
  • Ringing or buzzing in one or both ears.
  • Responding incorrectly to a question or statement given by another individual.
  • Avoiding social situations.
  • Turning up the volume.
  • Difficulty understanding when in situations with lots of background noise.
  • Struggling to hear in a situation that you used to be able to hear.
  • If others believe you are turning up the television volume too high.
  • Family or friends start telling you to get a hearing test or hearing aids.
  • Attending a social activity and choosing not to interact with others as you know you will not be able to hear them. You may think if you stay quiet, no one will know you are struggling to hear.
  • Adjusting elements in your environment to help you hear.
  • Sounds you hear are muffled.
  • Laying on your side in bed and you cannot hear sounds around you
